Powder Day Reminisce

Steve Thorburn sent us these great shots he took while enjoying a late-spring powder day in Colorado. I think he’s trying to get us psyched for the upcoming ski season. Hey Steve, it’s working! Enough with this heat already–we want snow!

Here’s Steve’s story, complete with three pow-rific pics…

“April 25th was one of the last powder days of the ski season. I arranged to meet my friend Andy Dimmen at the top of Berthoud Pass at 6:30am to give us ample time to fully enjoy the 16 inches of snow that had fallen overnight. Steve_Backcountry_Ski_Blog.JPG As soon as we geared up and began skinning we decided to venture to the Southern extremity of the former Berthoud Pass Ski Area to a steep double black gully known as Pauly’s Powder Stash. We entered the gully at the highest point possible, just below a large cliff band and began doing some snow stability testing to determine whether or not the snow there was safe enough to ski. After we decided that conditions were quite favorable I made a few turns and stopped in a safe zone off to the side to watch Andy ski. We took turns skiing down the gully from safe zone to safe zone, the whole time commenting on how incredible the conditions were. Steve_Ski_Blog_Andy_Gully.JPG At the bottom we both agreed that this had been one of the best single runs of the season”.
