This week on Adventure Edge Radio, we’re featuring an interview with, and paying tribute to, Rob Gauntlett. Together with James Hooper, Gauntlett (at right) was named Adventurer of the Year for 2008 by National Geographic Adventure Magazine.
Sadly, Gauntlett passed away on January 10th while mountaineering and ice climbing in the French Alps; he was just 21 years old.
Last month, we interviewed Gauntlett and Hooper from their homes in England. The duo had just received the Adventurer of the Year honor for a 26,000 mile journey via dog sled, ski, bicycle and sailboat from the magnetic North Pole to the magnetic South Pole and then on to Australia – a feat that had never before been accomplished.
It is with a heavy heart that we post the interview, knowing it was Gauntlett’s last. His beautiful spirit and unstoppable drive live on through his accomplishments and the friends and family he left behind. Our hope is that his words will inspire us all to reach for our dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.
