Podcast with Marathoner, AT Hiker and Author

Frank Shorter wins marathon at 1972 OlympicsThis time out, Adventure Edge Radio features interviews with exceptional Applachian Trail thru-hiker Andrew Thompson, acclaimed author David Grann and Olympic marathoner Frank Short.

We begin with Andrew Thompson, the current record holder for the fastest finish of the 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail. Thompson also just became the 8th runner – out of nearly 700 – to finish and win the Barkley Marathon, arguably the hardest footrace in the world.

We’re also talking to David Grann about his new book: The Lost City of Z: A Tale Of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon. A current New York Times bestseller, the book details the 1925 disappearance of British adventurer Percy Fawcett in the Amazon. Fawcett was determined to find and prove the existence of El Dorado, the mythic city of gold and that of an ancient and advanced civilization.

A great interview with Frank Shorter (pictured), perhaps the best American marathoner of all time and winner of the 1972 Olympic gold medal in Munich and the silver medal in 1976 in Montreal, wraps things up. Shorter talks about the current state of American distance running, his role in the United States Anti-Doping Agency and the progress we’ve made in keeping sports clean.
