Here are some great tips to improve your gas mileage and help you spend less money at the pump…
1. Make sure you tires are properly inflated and aligned. Under-inflated tires waste 5% of the fuel in your tank. If you’re not sure of the correct tire pressure, make sure your mechanic checks them next time you get an oil change.
2. Speaking of oil changes, get one. While you’re there, have your air filter changed. You should also get regular tune-ups and replace worn-out spark plugs.
3. Don’t accelerate too quickly.
4. Never let your engine idle. If you’re parked, turn the car off. Idling is a huge waste of fuel.
5. Only use the air conditioning when absolutely necessary. Most of the time, unrolling a window will do the trick.
6. Unload the trunk. The lighter the car, the less gas you’ll use.
7. Don’t drive too fast. Driving 10 mph slower will save you 15% fuel.
8. If your car has overdrive gear, use it.
9. Use cruise control whenever possible.
10. Conserve trips – run all of your errands at once, for example. Consider carpooling, walking, riding a bike, public transportation or even buying an electric scooter to get around town.
