Thanksgiving Is Good for Your Health

ThanksgivingThanksgiving is good for your soul, your spirit… and also for your health.

You may be eating more than usual today, but there are also physical and mental benefits to all this appreciation. Researchers have found that giving thanks is energizing, lifts the spirit and makes people physically and mentally healthier.

“You can’t be depressed and grateful at the same time,” said Shoshanna, the author of “365 Ways to Give Thanks: One for Every Day of the Year.” “It makes a person physically, mentally, in every way healthier.”

But you can’t just limit yourself to giving thanks on Thanksgiving – to reap the rewards you have to give thanks all year long. Carry the Thanksgiving spirit with you all year long to live a happier, healthier life.

“If you don’t do it regularly you’re not going to get the benefits,” said Sonja Lyubomirsky, a psychology professor at the University of California, Riverside. “It’s kind of like if you went to the gym once a year. What would be the good of that?”

What are you thankful for?
