Boulder Friends Commute to Work via Tube..

Tube_commute.jpg… inner tube! That’s right, this daring duo from Boulder has given the “alternative” in “alternative transportation” a whole new meaning. Braving chilly Boulder Creek, in suits and ties (also giving new meaning to the term “wet suit”), Andy Gruel and Jeff Kagan, took tubes to work on Friday.

If this tube commute had happened somewhere other than Boulder, it might have seemed strange. But Boulder is used to extremes. Seems this eco-conscious community also knows no limits when it comes to creative transportation. They’ll save fuel any which way they can.

Something tells me, though, that this type of commute won’t catch on. Gruel and Kagan were freezing in the 44 degree waters of Boulder Creek. Maybe a kayak would have been a better choice.

According to the article in The Daily Camera

“I love the idea of another type of commute that doesn’t rely on these dastardly fossil fuels,” Kagan said.

Both tubers had flipped their tubes in the high-running, 44-degree water before they’d even passed under the first bridge.By Ninth Street, the pair took a break to warm back up on the sunny bike path that runs along the river. Gruel’s knees were shaking violently and Kagan started to do a few jumping jacks.

See the article for a video of their totally tubular commute.
