Feeling Down? Eco Therapy is the Answer

John_Snowshoeing.JPGResearchers are now claiming to have hard evidence for a fact outdoor lovers have always known… being outside is good for you! In fact, according to them, it’s essential for your emotional and mental wellbeing. Well, yeah.

If you’re feeling depressed, angry, or blue all you may need is a brisk walk in the park or stroll down a wooded lane to bring down blood pressure, relieve anxiety and elevate your mood. Exercising outdoors, or even just being outdoors, has significant and measurable benefits.

What we’ve always called hiking, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, camping, running, or walking the dog, they’ve now dubbed “eco-therapy”.

Most of us already know the benefits that come with being outside. It’s an absolute truth that sunshine, fresh air and the breeze are nature’s remedies for just about everything. I tend to get grumpy when I’ve been stuck indoors for too long. As soon as I step out the door, though, I’m all smiles. It truly is a powerful thing.

And now we have the science to prove it.

So get out there and explore.

Does the great outdoors get HBO? Just kidding! (sort of)

    -Darla :)

  • Allie Comeau's response:

Hmmm… I don’t think HBO is available. There’s nothing good on TV anyway. :)

You could always wear headphones and listen to music. I know some people who even listen to books on tape while they run.
