How Big Is Your Pumpkin? : Videos
It’s that time of year again —time for pumpkin farmers to send their gourds off to market to become jack-o-lanterns and front porch decor. But some farmers have other plans for their pumpkins. Like this guy, who won the annual Oregon Giant Pumpkin contest with a whopping 1524 pound pumpkin!
This guy’s enormous pumpkin would have won the annual Buffalo, NY competition, but it was disqualified because it had a crack. You have to be very careful when you handle giant jack-o-lanterns…
According to these farmers, there are several things you can do to produce a winning pumpkin… water it A LOT and use special fertilizers to feed it (appparently bat manure is a secret weapon).
But what exactly do you do with a pumpkin that weighs half a ton (or more)?
Well, you could watch it grow for months and months and then blow it up… (don’t try this at home)
Or, even better, you could send it to Dave Letterman and let him blow it up…
What would you do with a giant pumpkin?

Oh my gosh I did not know that pumpkins could grow so big! Mine only weighs about 9 pounds… not a prizewinner by any means. But I’m sure some neighborhood kid will smash it in the middle of the night anyway.
Great video! I love Letterman.
