“Storm Over Everest,” a David Breashears film, aired this week on PBS. Breashears is a filmmaker, but he was also part of an intense rescue effort on the slopes of Everest in 1996. Three climbing teams were trapped on the mountain during an “unimaginably fierce” and fast-moving storm. From the official website: Through remarkably intimate interviews with the climbers and Sherpas who survived the storm—many who have never spoken before on American television—Breashears sheds new light on the worst climbing tragedy in Mount Everest’s history.
Check out the trailer below and watch the entire PBS special online if you’re as intrigued as I am…
In other Everest news, a Chinese/Tibetan climbing team summited last week carrying the Olympic Torch. The climb has been nothing if not controversial. Any thoughts?
