The Original Biggest Loser Competition

Biggest Loser logoYou may have seen “The Biggest Loser” show on television, where individuals and/or couples compete to see who can lose the most weight. Well, it looks like the television execs may have stolen the idea from Sierra Trading Post…

Robin Jahnke, our Fulfillment Director, has been organizing a Biggest Loser’s competition at STP for more years than the show has been on the air. He tells me all about it below…

“We have been doing the Loser’s club here at Sierra Trading Post off and on for about 8 years. This year we changed it to a team event.

Everyone weighs in once a week and if they weigh less than the week before, they don’t have to pay a fine. If they weigh the same, they pay one dollar. If they weigh more, they pay two dollars.

To turn the heat up, if the team weighs the same, they pay an additional dollar and if the team weighs more, they pay two dollars. So if one person loses a pound they don’t have to pay for themselves, but if their teammate(s) gained two pounds, they have to pay two dollars.

If the team nets out the same, they pay an additional dollar. It costs $10 to join the club. The team at the end of twelve weeks that has the highest percent of loss, wins the entry fees. The team that comes in second wins the penalty fees.

This year’s spring competition totaled 196 lbs. lost (a whole person)! The winning team lost 44 lbs. at 9.9% body weight. The greatest loss by an individual was William White at 34 lbs. and 14.4% of his starting weight. He has kept it off and is not participating this time around.

After three weeks in the fall/winter competition, we have cumulatively lost 108 lbs. which is 2.9% of our combined body weight. We have eight teams and eighteen people participating. We’ve got some great team names this time around, too… ¼ Ton Pickup, Fabulous Flab and iPood to name a few.”

Way to go, Robin! Best of luck to you and the rest of the Loser’s!
