A few weeks ago I posted an article about how great hula hooping is for fitness. Well, it gets better. How’d you like to burn 600+ calories an hour while hula hooping?
Let me introduce you to Hoopnotica – a new hula hoop workout that tones muscles, increases flexibility, improves coordination and strengthens your cardiovascular system.
According to our friends at Hoopnotica, the hoop workout is used by Hollywood celebrities like Liv Tyler, Marissa Tomei and Beyonce (whose job it is to stay fit) and is described as “part dance, part exercise and ALL fun.”
To help spread the news about how effective a hula hooping workout can be, Hoopnotica is giving away a travel hula hoop and an instructional DVD. Just leave a comment below telling us about your fitness goals and why you’re excited about Hoopnotica and we’ll choose one lucky winner on Monday, July 6th to receive the free goods. (Read More and scroll down to leave a comment.)
UPDATE: We’ve chosen a winner (congratulations, Beverly!) to receive the Hoopnotica travel hula hoop & DVD. It wasn’t an easy choice – you all have wonderful reasons for wanting to hoop. Thanks to all who entered and best of luck achieving your fitness goals!

Since I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, knee pain has limited my exercise options. I can’t even do a lot of walking or bicycling for exercise any more. So I’m looking for alternative exercises to get a good cardio workout and maintain a healthy weight now that I am less active. I think maybe hoopnotica would be a way I can stay fit and burn calories. So I’m excited to learn about this new opportunity! And being able to take it with me when I travel would be great!

Well as far as my fitness goals go…I am trying to lose weight that I gained during the first year of college. I am working on eating well and getting to the gym at least 3 times a week for an hour of cardio. Hoopnotica looks cool because I am easily bored with my usual fitness routine so new types of exercise are always appealing! I definitely would love to win Hoopnotica!!

My main exercise is cycling, lots of it, lots of long endurance rides but I don’t get enough core work and this looks like a great alternative to a lot of the core workouts out there.

I am really interested in Hoopnotica because I am looking for more interesting ways to get cardio exercise. I love the hula hooping activity on the Wii, but it’s pretty short, so I’d love to be able to explore this more!

I was finally diagnosed with hypothyroidism a couple of months ago, after 8 years of obscure ills and weight gain. This would be such a fun way to help me get my health back.

I have had 2 serious back injuries, one where I was told that I would never walk again – but HA! I trickeds all of those doctors! I walk (with a slight limp, but who cares?) I think that hooping would be a great and gentle enough exercise for me. I asked my niece to teach me, but she doesn’t know how to hoop.
I would love to learn.

would love to try this.
As I am approaching 40, it is harder to find exercise I like and also that I have time for.
But I also realize the shape I am (not) in.
This is a noce blast from my teenage years.

I led a very athletic life, including lots of high impact sports, until my late 30’s — but was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (which thankfully has not been too debilitating). I am doing yoga when my hands can take the pressure but always need good aerobic programs to supplement and alternatives for periods when I can’t do joint-stressing workouts. And, then there is that joyful memory of hula-hooping when I was a girl.

My fitness goal is to find a fun cardio workout! Hula hooping is great cardio but also a good workout for the mid section which is where my extra pounds like to hang. Some nice sculpted abs from this exercise would be great!

I got a hula hoop for a birthday present in college as a joke. I had made some comment out winning a hula hoop contest in elementary school (5th grade?). I am now an elementary school teacher and just last week we had an opportunity to do it. I was still the winner!

I lost 30 pounds a year ago, but had 3 knee surgeries that have made it difficult to do the aerobics I used to do. Sometimes, even walking is difficult. As a result I have gained most of that weight back. Getting a jump start with Hoopnatica would be a giant help. I’m 62 years old and my knees and back are suffering from the weight I regained. It’s never to late to get fit and this would be a fun, portable, nostalgic way to lose weight and tone up again.

sounds like this could be a fun way to get fit with my kids…

hooping is a BLAST! A friend introduced me to it recently and it is just so much fun. My fitness goals are basically to feel good and be fit. It’s easy in the summertime, but Iowa has long harsh cold winters…hooping will be a great indoor wintertime atheletic activity. Thanks for the giveaway!

A friend had large, heavier hula hoops at her wedding, we tried it, and I’ hooked! My “problem” area is my waist, so what a great way to work that area, improve flexibility, coordination and just HAVE FUN!

I have the typical male spare tire and this sounds like a great way to work on making it smaller. I used to go dancing for exercise but as I’m older now I feel strange going to clubs where everyone is twentysomething. Hula hooping to music sounds fun.

This looks really interesting. There were a couple folks on the trails by Walden pond the other day with these…

When I was little I used to L-O-V-E hula-hooping. My girls have inherited my genes and can go for what seems like an hour. I am a homeschool mom and am always looking for fun ways to teach my kids to be healthy. It is a legacy that I know will last and is very important. I would anbsolutely love to demo this product and also have a way to keep my children involved in being active with me!! Exercise can be fun!

I would love to hear more about this plan! I have been struggling with severe rheumatoid arthritis for the last four years, and I have not yet found an exercise plan that I can stick with. So many of my joints are problematic now that even simply walking is almost too much impact for me to do every day because my feet and left knee will swell up. My left elbow was also severely impacted and I have no cartilage left in that joint, so weight bearing is impossible and even bike riding can be tough on the elbow and also on my bad wrists.
I absolutely hate being completely inactive, but I seriously have very few options – I can “spin” on the recumbant bike at the physical therapist, but it’s SO BORING! and I don’t have access to a swimming pool where I live in this rural mtn community. Prior to becoming so ill, I was extremely active, so being a slug is really difficult for me, plus I’ve slowly gained back the 20 lbs I lost when I first was so very ill, but I don’t want my weight to keep creeping up and I miss my muscles!
I’m hoping this might possibly be something I could do!

Although I am not proud of it, I tend to hate most forms of physical fitness. I know I really need to be more active, both for myself and to set a better example for my daughter. I think being able to try something new would be the push that I need to get out and try to be more fit.
July 4th, 2009 @ 11:45 am
This looks like so much fun!. I used to hula-hoop as a child with my friends all the time. It didn’t look like the Hoopnotica way.
I am always in serch of new ways to be fit and have fun. I love taking workout dvd’s to work and workout during breaks with my coworkers, they would love this.
July 4th, 2009 @ 7:43 pm
Just what I’ve been looking for! As an older adult in my 60’s I need a low impact fitness routine to keep in shape.
July 4th, 2009 @ 10:09 pm
I have a lovely post-college gut that I’m hoping to reduce. Hula hooping is something I’ll actually DO, unlike going to the gym!
July 5th, 2009 @ 11:28 am
I just got turned on to “hooping” and have been trying to learn with a kid’s hoop from a local discount store (not bad, but could be much better). As a woman in my mid-50’s who refuses to “grow up”, I see no reason to give up trying to keep fit, but I’ve come to the point in my life where I want my fitness routine to be not only effective but also enjoyable. I have tried MANY different ways to get fit and think I have finally found the ONE fitness routine that I can stick with and finally get back into terrific shape. And the best part is: this is the most FUN I’ve had getting fit since I was a kid. I think I’ve finally found my “BLISS” in the fitness world. But I realize I really need to step up to an adult’s hoop and fitness routine and I’d absolutely love to win this Hoopnotica workout kit!

Playing a hoola hoop would be fun, I would also like to purchase that instructional dvd’s .

I purchase a hula hoop a couple of months ago, planning on indulging in the exercise while watching the tv. I’ve known for quite some time that it can be extreme beneficial for trimming the waistline. But, for the life of me I can not keep the hoop off the floor. I have been diligently attempting to practice every evening and have not been able to master a basic hula hoop session. I used to do it as a child but the mastery of this has totally eluded me. Any suggestions on how to get the hula and my hips to do what they should be doing? Help!
